Commemorating 160 Years of Service

On October 25, 2026, the Texas–Lyon initiative will help mark the 160th anniversary of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word’s arrival in Galveston, Texas.

Founded by Bishop Claude-Marie Dubuis of Lyon, the Sisters came to Texas in 1866 in response to urgent needs for healthcare, education, and care for the vulnerable. Their legacy continues today through institutions and communities shaped by faith, service, and compassion.

This anniversary offers an important opportunity to honor the historic Catholic ties between Texas and Lyon while inviting new support for projects that carry this legacy forward.
