Build the Saint-Irénée Center

A living center for encounter, service, education, and social action in Lyon.

The Saint-Irénée Center will be a welcoming, mission-driven space where people can gather, learn, serve, and build relationships across generations, cultures, and communities.

Rooted in Lyon’s long tradition of Catholic social teaching and charitable action, the Saint-Irénée Center will connect history with present-day needs. It will serve as a place for dialogue, formation, volunteerism, cultural exchange, and community engagement.

For Texas donors, the Saint-Irénée Center offers a powerful opportunity: to invest in the same spirit of service that once traveled from Lyon to Texas and helped shape hospitals, schools, parishes, and ministries across the state.

Why the Saint-Irénée Center Matters

The Texas–Lyon story is not only about preserving the past. It is also about carrying forward a living mission.

For generations, the relationship between Texas and Lyon has been shaped by faith in action: caring for the vulnerable, educating young people, welcoming communities, and building institutions that serve human dignity.

The Saint-Irénée Center gives this legacy a visible home for the future.

It will create a space where students, young professionals, pilgrims, visitors, volunteers, and community partners can come together around shared values of service, hospitality, education, and social responsibility.

The Texas Connection

The early Catholic leaders and religious communities who traveled from Lyon to Texas did more than establish institutions. They carried a way of seeing the world: that faith should be lived through service, education, healthcare, and care for the vulnerable.

The Saint-Irénée Center carries that same spirit into the present day.

Through the Texas–Lyon Heritage Society, donors can help strengthen a place in Lyon where formation, service, dialogue, and international partnership can grow,  including new connections between Lyon and Texas.

What Support Makes Possible

Support for the Saint-Irénée Center will help create and activate a space for gathering, learning, service, and exchange.

The project may include student and young adult gatherings, speaker series, volunteer formation, Texas–Lyon cultural evenings, pilgrimage welcome programming, service-learning opportunities, Catholic social teaching seminars, hospitality programs, small exhibitions, and partner convenings with hospitals, universities, dioceses, and cultural organizations.

Project Goals

The Saint-Irénée Center will help:

A Living Bridge for the Future

The Saint-Irénée Center is not simply a building or program. It is a place where the values that connect Texas and Lyon can be lived today.

By supporting the Saint-Irénée Center, donors help create a lasting center for encounter, service, education, and friendship,  carrying forward a shared legacy of faith in action.
